Community Agreements
A Sacred Standard for Belonging
Dr. Vanessa R. Brooks, Ed.D.
Before We Gather
Affinity is a private community for accomplished women of faith who are growing, discerning, questioning, healing, building, and becoming. This is not a space built around performance. It is not a place where women have to explain the fullness of their lives before they are worthy of being heard.
These community agreements exist to protect the spirit of the room. They help us create a space where women can think deeply, speak honestly, ask better questions, honor their faith, respect one another’s lived experience, and remain open to what God may be revealing in this season.
Belonging does not mean sameness. It does not mean everyone will share the same story, theology, background, interpretation, calling, or pace of growth. Belonging means we agree to honor one another with maturity, humility, wisdom, and care.
As members of Affinity, we enter this community with the understanding that our words matter, our presence matters, and the way we hold space for one another matters. These agreements are an invitation into a higher standard of community.
“Belonging is protected by the agreements we are willing to honor.”
We honor this as a sacred and mature space.
Affinity is created for women who desire depth, honesty, discernment, and meaningful growth. We agree to engage with maturity and care. We do not enter conversations to dominate, perform, argue, fix, shame, or prove. We enter with humility, wisdom, and a willingness to listen.
We make room for honest questions.
Many women arrive in Affinity during a season of spiritual, personal, professional, or identity transition. Questions are not treated as threats here. Questions can be evidence of growth, discernment, and a deeper desire for truth. We agree to make room for women to ask honest questions without being dismissed, corrected too quickly, or spiritually shamed.
We do not weaponize faith.
Scripture, prayer, spiritual language, and personal conviction should be handled with reverence and care. We agree not to use faith as a tool of control, superiority, dismissal, manipulation, or shame. We honor God by honoring the humanity, dignity, and discernment of the women in this community.
“Depth requires safety. Safety requires wisdom.”
We respect confidentiality.
What is shared in Affinity should be treated with care. Members may speak about their own learning, reflection, and growth outside the community, but we do not repeat another woman’s story, struggle, question, testimony, or private details without her permission. Confidentiality creates the courage to be honest.
We speak from our own experience.
We agree to use language that reflects ownership of our own story. We avoid assuming that our experience is the standard for everyone else. We can offer wisdom without universalizing our path. We can share conviction without erasing another woman’s discernment. We can speak truthfully while remaining humble.
We honor difference without demanding sameness.
Affinity welcomes accomplished women of faith who may hold different backgrounds, church experiences, theological frameworks, leadership paths, professional identities, and life stories. We do not require sameness in order to offer respect. We agree to remain curious, grounded, and gracious when difference is present.
“We can be deeply rooted and still remain open to growth.”
We do not rush another woman’s process.
Growth has timing. Discernment has rhythm. Healing has layers. We agree not to pressure another woman to decide, disclose, forgive, explain, build, release, or move before she is ready. We can encourage without rushing. We can witness without controlling. We can offer presence without forcing conclusions.
We engage with care, not consumption.
Affinity is not a place to consume another woman’s vulnerability as content. We honor what is shared. We respond with care. We do not pressure members to reveal more than they choose. We do not turn another woman’s story into gossip, spectacle, or advice-giving without invitation.
We practice wise boundaries.
Healthy community requires boundaries. Members are encouraged to participate honestly while honoring their own capacity. We do not expect constant availability, emotional labor on demand, or immediate responses. We respect the difference between support and overextension.
“A healthy room does not require women to abandon themselves to belong.”
We hold space for both faith and complexity.
Life is layered. Faith is not diminished by honest complexity. We agree to make room for grief, joy, questions, clarity, disappointment, ambition, rest, calling, and change. We resist shallow answers when deeper listening is needed. We honor the fullness of what women carry.
We contribute to the atmosphere we desire.
Every member helps shape the culture of Affinity. We agree to bring presence, thoughtfulness, generosity, and maturity into the room. We do not only ask whether the community serves us; we also ask how our presence helps make the community more meaningful for others.
We protect the purpose of Affinity.
Affinity exists to help accomplished women of faith make sense of what they are experiencing, trust who they are becoming, and discern what they are called to build next. We agree to protect that purpose by engaging in ways that deepen belonging, wisdom, reflection, courage, and spiritual maturity.
