As a Doctor of Education in Mental Health Administration, Faith-Based Mental Health Consultant, and Strategic Leadership Expert, I don’t just raise awareness—I build actionable systems that transform the way churches approach mental and emotional wellness.
I hold a Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling from Houston Christian University, and I have 14 years of experience as a Christian pastor and over 20 years in ministry leadership. I know firsthand the emotional, mental, and spiritual weight that leaders carry—and I also know that burnout, stress, and emotional exhaustion are not part of God’s plan for His people.
I understand the challenges of faith-based leadership because I’ve lived them.
I know firsthand what it means to lead while struggling with exhaustion, compassion fatigue, and the pressure to always be strong.
I know the cultural and theological barriers that make it hard for churches to embrace mental health support.
I also know that healing is possible—and that the Black Church in particular needs a framework that is spiritually and culturally relevant.
That’s why I created this consulting program—to bridge the gap between faith and mental health, helping churches build wellness infrastructures that prevent burnout, equip leaders, and support congregants in need.
Your church should not be the last place people go when they’re struggling—it should be the first.
And that starts with leadership, structure, and strategy.
My work is rooted in biblical theology, behavioral psychology, and evidence-based leadership strategies that equip churches to move from reactive crisis management to proactive mental health solutions.

Dissertation Research: Exploring Depression in the Black Church
My doctoral research, "Exploring Depression in the Black Church: Are African-American Evangelical Clergy Willing to Integrate Secular, Evidence-Based Mental Health Treatments With Their Religious Counseling Practices?", examined the mental health crisis in Black faith communities and uncovered a critical gap: While many pastors acknowledge the need for mental health support, few feel equipped to integrate professional mental health practices into their ministry.
The findings confirm what we already know—churches are often the first place people turn in a mental health crisis, yet most faith leaders lack the training and systems to respond effectively.
🔹 The study also revealed a deep-rooted tension between faith and psychology, where many clergy struggle with the idea of integrating professional mental health care into their spiritual framework. This reluctance, coupled with stigma and theological misconceptions, has left many congregants without the support they need.
🚀 This is why I am committed to equipping churches with the knowledge, structure, and resources to create sustainable, faith-driven mental health strategies. I help ministries shift from prayer-only approaches to actionable, biblically sound mental health solutions that empower pastors, strengthen leadership, and cultivate thriving congregations.
My research didn’t just identify the gap in mental health support within the Black Church—it provided insight into how we can bridge the divide between faith and evidence-based mental health solutions.
🔹 Clergy are often the first responders in a mental health crisis but lack the proper training to navigate these situations effectively.
🔹 Many church leaders express openness to integrating professional mental health care but struggle with concerns about theology, stigma, and trust.
🔹 Without structured mental health strategies, many churches unintentionally reinforce cycles of suffering, burnout, and emotional suppression.
🚨 The disconnect is not just in awareness—it’s in implementation.
📌 That’s why my work is so critical. I take these research findings and translate them into practical, faith-based mental health frameworks that empower leaders, build supportive congregations, and create sustainable wellness structures within ministries.
🚀 Your church doesn’t have to choose between faith and mental health. It’s time to implement research-backed, biblically sound strategies that promote healing for both individuals and leadership teams.

The Black Church has always been a place of healing and hope. But in today’s world, churches face new challenges that require mental health education, leadership training, and crisis response preparation. Many pastors and faith leaders feel unequipped to handle the growing mental health needs in their congregation.
This is why I created the Faith & Mental Health Integration Leadership Initiative™ — a consulting program designed to equip churches, pastors, and ministry leaders with the tools they need to effectively integrate faith and mental health, build a crisis response plan, and create a spiritually and emotionally safe church environment.
Mishandling Mental Health Crises Due to Lack of Awareness. Many churches unintentionally cause harm when mental health challenges arise because they lack the training to recognize and respond appropriately. Without a structured crisis plan, incidents like panic attacks, suicidal ideation, or emotional breakdowns may be dismissed as “spiritual issues” rather than urgent mental health concerns. This can lead to delayed interventions, misdiagnosed struggles, and even dangerous consequences for those in crisis.
Burning Out Pastors and Ministry Leaders Who Are Not Equipped to Counsel Members in Distress.
Pushing Struggling Members Away with Outdated or Harmful Theological Responses to Mental Illness. Many congregants suffer in silence because they fear being judged or misunderstood by their church. When churches default to outdated theology, such as attributing depression to a lack of faith or discouraging therapy and medication, it creates shame and isolation. These harmful narratives prevent people from seeking the help they need and can even push them away from the church altogether, reinforcing the stigma instead of fostering healing.
Losing Trust in the Community by Not Addressing Real-World Challenges Faced by Congregants. Churches thrive when they serve as relevant, trusted pillars of support in the community. But when mental health struggles, trauma, and real-life stressors are ignored or dismissed, the church can lose its credibility as a place of refuge. Members may turn elsewhere—secular therapists, social groups, or even leave the church entirely—because they feel the church doesn’t acknowledge or address their lived experiences. Without a proactive approach, churches risk becoming disconnected from the very people they aim to serve.
